What Is Green Cleaning?
Green cleaning is a process that promotes a healthier facility with a positive impact on occupant performance, and improved indoor air quality, health and environmental impact. This is achieved through the exclusive use of certified green clean chemicals, tools and techniques.  Additional emphasis is placed on practicing green standardized administrative and operational procedures aimed at promoting efficiency.

The prices for certified green chemicals are now comparable to those of non-green products.  Through improved efficiency and proper janitorial training, green cleaning programs can both reduce costs and be highly beneficial to facility occupants.

Green cleaning is beneficial in the following ways:

  • Reduces exposure to toxic chemicals;
  • Reduces indoor pollutant levels that can lead to illnesses provoked by airborne pollutants;
  • Providesa more thorough cleaning process, through increased cleaning efficiency and a safer work environment;
  • Leads to costs savings through overall service efficiency and decreased chemical use;
  • Increases employee productivity and performance by reducing absences due to illness; and
  • Reduces negative environmental impacts/footprint of the facility.

Green cleaning consists of several components:

  • Green certified chemicals, products and equipment
  • Procedures that promote efficiency and prevent waste
  • Staff members who are properly trained
  • Management accountability
  • A cleaning plan designed to improve facility health

Industry certification groups, such as Green Seal, have established industry standards for such issues as product performance and product chemical toxicity levels.

A growing number of corporations and public agencies are required to adopt green cleaning practices.  The state of New York, for example, where the principals of Green Leaf completed their green cleaning courses, has directed state agencies to reduce the environmental impact of cleaning of state facilities since 2005.  Now is the time to go green with Green Leaf!

Benefits of Green Cleaning

• Improves Occupant Health.  Green-certified chemicals and materials improve indoor air quality by extracting larger quantities of dirt, mold, dust and viruses from facilities, while adhering to industry green standards.

• Protects the Environment.  Green-certified chemicals, properly mixed, are regulated by stringent industry standards to protect the environment and reduce water waste.

Reduces Cost.  Waste reduction lowers client cleaning costs.  Green materials and equipment are designed to enhance cleaning staff performance and reduce labor costs.
