The Root Chakra         (Close)

The root or base chakra is the first chakra and is concerned with physical needs and basic human survival. It reflects the degree to which we are connected to the earth and our ability to ‘keep our feet firmly on the ground’.

Psychological Functions: Survival, vitality, grounding, security, support, stability, sexuality, individuality, courage, impulsiveness.

Physical Issues: Lower back, sciatica, fatigue, obesity, constipation, colds, adrenals, feet, hands, and immune system.

Emotional Issues: Physical security, group safety, feeling at home, ability to stand up for yourself, and stability with family, relationships, work and money.

The root chakra’s energy will be out of balance if, for example, you: subscribe to family or social beliefs that no longer serve you; consider your religion, political beliefs, social class and so on to be better than others; or hold on to negative experiences in your family.

Positive actions to strengthen your root chakra include: exercise and physical activities such as yoga; developing a conscious relationship with money; honouring your personal code of conduct; wearing red clothes; and listening to stimulating music with deep beats, such as drums.
